Scott Petrie
received his B.A. from University of Western
Ontario in History and Philosophy, his Masters in Theological Studies
from
Dalhousie University, and his M.A. in Comparative Religion from the
University
of Toronto; he also completed his Classical Hatha Yoga teacher training
in 2000
in Toronto, he holds a Nidan Degree in Wado-Ryu Karate, Master's Level
Reiki
practitioner, and has, for the past 28 years, been engaged in the study
and
practice of yoga. He currently teaches modern postural
classes, meditation
courses, lectures on the history and philosophy of yoga, and is on the
faculty
of several teacher training programs in the city.
Over the
years, Scott has focused upon developing an
open-dialogue between practitioners of all schools around the central
issues facing
yoga today. He currently resides on the board of the Yoga
Festival
Toronto: a non-profit, 3 day festival, celebrating the many
unique
aspects the local and international yoga community. Scott is
also the
founder of The Yoga Darshana Society of Toronto:
a philosophic society which provides a forum for monthly lectures by
those in
the Toronto
yogic community to encourage discussion and debate around contemporary
issues
in yoga.
